Threatened Tribe of Islam in cambodia

A more cynical account relates that the Khmer royal family, at a time when its power was dwindling, found a ready and willing ally in the Muslim leader. On the occasion of Imam San's birthday each October, the sect that emerged from his early followers gathers in the former royal city of Udong, about 30 kilometers outside of the present capitalof Phnom Penh, to honor his memory through prayer and offerings. The colorful mawlut ceremony reaffirms the sect's privileged heritage and its continued isolation from the rest of the country's Islamic community, which is dominated by a group known as the Cham. The Imam San followers are the only group to remain outside the domain of the Mufti, the government-sanctioned leader of Islam in Cambodia - a status that was renewed by the government in 1988. Successive Imam San leaders, or Ong Khnuur, have held the prestigious title of Okhna, originally bestowed by the palace. Cambodia's estimated 37,000 Imam San followers live in only a f...

Mango is one of the fruit that offer great taste either ripe or green. Back home, whenever we cook beef (sach ko) or water buffalo steak (sach kor-bey), we would prepare the meat by marinating with our Khmer Krom favorite spices, and then add thin slices of green mango or papaya on top, covered and set a side for 20 or 30 minutes before grilled. The outcome was unbelievably; steak was always tender as if it has been aged for weeks. Crunchy green mango with sweet vinaigrette sauce and salty dried shrimp is very yummy. Wat Phnom Daun Penh and Phnom Penh

Image
Phnom Penh takes its name from the present Wat Phnom or Hill Temple. Legend has it that in 1372, an old nun named Penh went to fetch water in the Mekong and found a dead Koki tree floating down the stream. Inside a hole of the Koki tree were four bronze and one stone Buddha statues. Daun (Grandma) Penh brought the statues ashore and ordered people to pile up earth northeast of her house; she then used the Koki trunks to build a temple on the hill to house the five Buddha statues, and then named the temple after herself as Wat Phnom Daun Penh, which is now known as Wat Phnom, a small hill of 27 metres (89 ft) in height.
